How do we minimise this impact? By buying locally and sustainably:
• Buy food and products that are produced locally to reduce transportation distance and significantly reduce carbon emissions.
• Eat more fresh whole foods and less highly processed foods that require more energy and water to produce and package
• Eat food that is in season, as this is more likely to be in harmony with the environment and require less energy, fertiliser and water in growing, transportation and refrigeration.
• Grow our own foods or support a community garden
At its roots, sustainable farming benefits the local community, and the local economy. It enriches the soil, protects air and water quality, and minimises energy consumption.
